Our first recommendation is to come out and just watch a race or two to get a feel for how everything works. That familiarization will help relieve some of your jitters. Even if you don't know anybody, just say "hi" to the racer or family member you may be sitting next to on the bleachers. Mention that you are thinking of trying this and we guarantee you'll be welcomed and met with enthusiasm. Racing motocross brings about a camaraderie and a feeling of kindred spirit that racers and their families will love to share with somebody showing interest.
You are about to do something that many people are too scared to do or don't have the determination to learn to do it well enough to try racing. We love the smile and sense of excitement on a newcomers face and we can't wait to see you at the races.
The first and most expensive requirement which you may already have covered is a dirt bike. You will also need boots, gloves, a helmet, and goggles.
2. You must be a member of the racing organization. Sign up for this is available at the tracks on race day. If you are not yet a member, arrive a little early to fill out your membership application.
AMA Membership - $38/yr.
District 14 Membership - $18/yr.
3. You must pay a fee to get on the track grounds which applies to everybody, even spectators. Usually aroud $8 but may vary a little from track to track.
4. If you want to race you then pay to sign up which is around $25 per class. This may, also, vary from track to track.
5. At sign up you will fill out an "onion skin" which is a sign up slip that says your name, #, bike, age, and has a signature releasing the track and organization if you get injured.
Note: All tracks must have an ambulance on the premises while races are running.
That's it. Just be at the starting gate when your class is getting ready to race.
